Fabric Donation Gives Haberdashery Project A Lift
The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s (HACT’s) Haberdashery received a welcome boost this week thanks to a large donation of fabric from local corporate and promotional clothing company, Colbar Clothing. The industrious project which falls under the centre’s award-winning Woza Moya programme, first opened its doors to the public almost two years ago and has been helping to generate much needed income for the centre’s various skills training and economic empowerment initiatives.
HACT’s Haberdashery Supervisor, Verna Walker explained that the Haberdashery was the latest in a long list of initiatives set-up by the centre to address the high rates of poverty and unemployment that currently exist in many of the Valley of 1000 Hills communities.
“Thanks to the ongoing support of our community and companies such as Colbar Clothing, we are thrilled that our little Haberdashery is proving very successful” said Verna. “Partnerships like this are a win-win for all involved including our team of local volunteers who help us run our Habby and serve our many customers on a daily basis” said Verna.
Speaking at the donation handover, Colbar Clothing’s Financial Director, Roland Hansen said “Verna and her team of volunteers are doing amazing work in our community and we are so happy to have made a contribution towards this project. Having visited the centre this week, I’m really impressed with HACT’s vision and the positive impact that project’s like the Haberdashery are having. At Colbar, we believe in giving back to the community and look forward to continuing our relationship with HACT.”
The Haberdashery is open 5 days a week from 8:30am to 12:30pm and is situated at the HACT Centre, 26 Old Main Road, Hillcrest. For queries, please contact HACT’s Woza Moya team on 031 765 5866 / email@example.com
Background to the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust:
Who We Are
Founded in 1990, the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is dedicated to saving and transforming lives. As one of the first NGO’s in South Africa to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, HACT has established a reputation for making a significant and meaningful impact in the lives of people infected and affected by the disease.
While our work and services continues to grow throughout KwaZulu-Natal, we primarily focus on serving the semi-rural and disadvantaged communities of the Valley of 1000 Hills region of KwaZulu-Natal, one of the epicentres of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic with HIV-infection rates of up to 40% -more than double the national average of 20%. (South African National AIDS Council) HACT is a registered Non Profit and Public Benefit organisation as well as a proud level 1 B-BBEE contributor.
What We Do
HACT’s mission is to provide unconditional love and hope to all those impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Our vision is an AIDS-free South Africa, and all our projects work towards this dream. Collectively our projects and services directly impact the lives of over 10 000 people every year, the majority of whom are women and orphaned and vulnerable children and young people.
HACT adopts a holistic, family-centric and asset-based approach to tackling HIV/AIDS and strives at all times to deliver practical, sustainable and community-led projects and services. Ultimately, this enables us to uplift and empower individuals, families and communities so they not only reach their full potential, but can also actively contribute towards the growth and development of our country.
Providing unconditional love and hope for all impacted by HIV/AIDS.
