Run for a reason greater than yourself… run for hope!

By running the 2018 Comrades Marathon for HACT, you will be helping us to give hope to thousands of people impacted by HIV/AIDS.

HACT is honoured to be an official charity of the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA). Through our partnership, every runner who tackles this iconic race also has the unique opportunity to bring about real change in the lives of local people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

With infection rates as high as 40%, the Valley of 1000 Hills is currently one of the epicentres of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In this high-burden area, HACT is working tirelessly to bring hope to local individuals and families whose lives have been ravaged by the disease…

The CMA’s Race4Charity campaign enables all Comrades runners to create a unique fundraising page via their online entry profile so that they can safely and easily raise funds for HACT through the support of their family, friends, work colleagues and employers.

The CMA is also offering the first 500 runners who raise R5000 for their selected charity the chance to qualify to start in seeding batch C on race day! (The Deadline is 2nd May 2018, so get fundraising asap to take advantage of this great opportunity!)

All HACT’s 2018 Comrades runners will receive a goodie bag and T-shirt at the EXPO as well as an opportunity to win some great prizes for those runners who raise the most funds for HACT.

All funds raised through HACT’s 2018 Comrades campaign will go towards the organisation’s two flagship projects – the Respite Unit and the Gogo (Granny) Support Groups programme.

HACT’s Respite Unit is currently the only facility of its kind providing free, 24-hour, inpatient care to impoverished adults and children suffering from end-stage AIDS and opportunistic infections such as TB and or cancer. At present, 7 out of every 10 patients admitted to the Unit recover to the point they can return home to their families. To learn more about our Respite Unit, please click here.

HACT’s Gogo (Granny) Support Groups programme aims to educate, empower and uplift gogos (grandmothers) living in the Valley of 1000 Hills region who are caring for one or more of their orphaned grandchildren. The programme supports a network of 2000 gogos and 58 support groups across 8 communities. To learn more about our Gogo Support Groups programme, please click here.
