HIV counselling, testing and treating

In this day and age, HIV/AIDS does not kill people – stigma does. If people test early and access treatment as early as possible,  adhere to the treatment and take good care of themselves, then HIV does not have to be a death sentence. It becomes a manageable, chronic illness that people can live long lives with! We believe in the vision of a South Africa in which everyone, young and old, knows their status, and that those are HIV Positive get onto treatment early and stay well for decades, and those that are HIV Negative take steps to stay that way.

We conduct free HIV counselling and testing onsite, at 26 Old Main Road, Hillcrest, Monday – Friday, 8am – 3pm. You do not need to make an appointment. We are also available for HIV counselling and testing on Saturdays if required – please contact us if you wish to test on a Saturday. For a fee, our counsellors can also come to workplaces or churches to conduct HIV education and testing for groups of people.

All testing is confidential. We use the finger-prick test, with results showing in roughly seven minutes. The pre-counselling, testing, and post-counselling process takes roughly 40 minutes in total. We use two different brands of test to ensure the results are 100% accurate and verified by two tests.

If a client tests HIV positive, we then conduct a CD4 count test (a mesure of the strength of the immune system) and, with those results, we refer the client to their local government clinic for ARV initiation. All people who are HIV positive can now access ARV treatment immediately, thanks to reforms made to government policies in 2016.
