HACT is currently accepting applications for the following vacancies in 2019:

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Education Coordinator (Peer Education)

 

Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is recruiting an Education Coordinator for a 1-year fixed term contract for its Peer Education programme.

 

Duties include:

  • Coordinating the implementation and facilitation of HACT’s HIV education and awareness programmes for high school and primary school youth in selected schools located in the Valley of 1000 Hills
  • Building and maintaining productive and supportive working relations amongst all of HACT’s  Education team members, ensuring cooperation  for the successful overall delivery of HACT’s HIV education and awareness programmes
  • Training, supervision and management of facilitator interns
  • Overseeing the scheduling and deliverables of the programme and community engagement
  • Monitoring and evaluation of programme activities, outputs and impact including the administration of planning and review documents
  • Supplementary curriculum development and sourcing materials to enhance and improve programme delivery
  • Communication and maintaining relationships with schools, including with school staff as well as partner organisations and community leadership
  • Maintaining ethical and professional boundaries and engagement with learners, working for their personal development
  • Working closely with HACT’s CEO, to continually improve programme impact and engagement with learners including regular programme review and changes
  • Preparing and submitting monthly reports and impact stories on all programme activities
  • Leading and participating in weekly meetings with the Education team as well as attend and actively contribute to meetings with HACT’s CEO and management team
  • Participating in Education and HACT special events
  • Assisting with HIV educational talks (schools, corporates, community, etc.), HIV Testing Services and community services as needed

Requirements

  • Matric certificate is mandatory and some tertiary education is preferred
  • Live and reside in or around the Valley of 1000 Hills (eThekwini Outer West)
  • Demonstrable interest in educating, mentoring and inspiring children and young people
  • Proven facilitation skills, counselling and team-building skills and experience
  • Proficient written and spoken communication skills  (in both English and isiZulu) and ability to write reports and follow work plans
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills with attention to detail, including experience in project coordination and Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Proficient written and spoken English and isiZulu and ability to write reports
  • Should be knowledgeable on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and life-skills related issues facing young people and the community
  • A certificate in any of the following is beneficial: youth leadership, community development,  facilitation, HIV Counselling and Testing, Child and Youth Care Work
  • A GOLD graduate (i.e. a past GOLD Peer Educator) is preferred, but not essential
  • Some tertiary education in education, health, psychology or related field is preferred but not essential

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Facilitator (Peer Education)

Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is seeking to recruit up to 3 x HIV education and awareness Facilitators for 1-year fixed term contract position who will be trained and invested into as a youth and community development practitioner through a Peer Education model.

Requirements:

  • Between 19 and 30 years of age
  • Demonstrable interest in educating, mentoring and inspiring children and young people
  • Matric certificate and some counselling and team-building skills and experience
  • Must be able to effectively and confidently communicate with stakeholders
  • Should be knowledgeable on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and life-skills related issues facing young people and the community
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient written and spoken English and isiZulu and ability to write reports
  • Live and reside in or around the Valley of 1000 Hills (eThekwini Outer West)
  • A GOLD graduate (i.e. a past GOLD Peer Educator) is preferred, but not essential

You will need to:

  • Be a role model: living out health-enhancing and purpose-driven behaviour
  • Educate: facilitating weekly skills training sessions at schools and or community sites
  • Be a mentor: mentoring, coaching and encouraging Peer Educators one-on-one in in group sessions
  • Counsel: offering time and space to Peer Educators in need of support and referring those in need of professional help
  • Co-ordinate: coordinate and manage community events, camps, career expos and other events by and/or for the peer educators
  • Stakeholder management: building linkages with community stakeholders and work professionally with teachers, clinic staff, management, local businesses and other community leaders
  • Administer: keep up to date and accurate records, time sheets, files and compile activity reports and impact stories
