The spirit of Madiba was truly alive at HACT on Wednesday, the 18th July 2018 as dozens of people pledged their 67 minutes in support of those impacted by HIV/AIDS in our local communities.
People of all ages from local businesses, community groups, NGOs, schools and churches gave 67 minutes or more of their time to volunteer, or donate items on HACT’s wish list for HACT’s Clothing Schemes, child support groups and Respite Unit. Some of the local businesses who got involved in the Mandela Day spirit included Trendi Holdings whose team assisted with various tasks around the centre including planting miniature succulents in the Plant Nursery as well as staff from Nedbank, Impilo Productions and Bidvest Insurance who helped with giving the centre’s facilities a fresh coat of paint and re-gravel our parking lot while an energetic team from First Group travelled to KwaNyuswa to work alongside local grannies in one of the centre’s community run vegetable gardens.
One of the many highlights from the day was a moving performance by students and teachers from Ubizo School of Art, who, after completing their 67 minutes of volunteering around the centre, spent the afternoon singing and entertaining patients and staff in HACT’s 24-bed Respite Unit.
“The vibe at HACT’s Mandela Day was amazing! We were very grateful for this opportunity for our students to share their talent with others and in so doing, lift the spirits of those who are sick and in need of support.” Mnqobi Khumalo, Lecturer, Ubizo School of Art
