VACANCY: Children’s Programme Social Worker

Position Title: Children’s Programme Social Worker

HACT seeks to employ a short term Children’s Programme Social Worker who will provide care and support services to orphaned and vulnerable children and youth (OVCY) and their families within at-risk communities.

 

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client/household assessment services in person and by telephone to assist clients in receiving beneficial information and services
  • Gather relevant information to offer support to clients and their families with a holistic, problem-solving approach
  • Develop intervention and treatment plans
  • Facilitate successful referrals and linkages to care to other agencies and services
  • Maintain accurate records and preparing reports
  • Watch for signs of child abuse and follow safeguarding procedures
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and involve the appropriate authorities
  • Assist OVCY Facilitators with their roles and responsibilities
  • Participate in training, supervision and meetings
  • Support M&E data management, quality and record keeping
  • Participate in community meetings forums and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Strengthen community systems to prevent and respond to HIV and AIDS, violence and abuse
  • Carry out any other relevant duties, relevant to the successful implementation of HACT’s programme and services.

 

Skills  and Qualifications

  • BA or B. Social Science Degree in Social Work
  • Experience working with clients that are affected by various social issues
  • Ability to write up case files and to develop treatment plans
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and referral pathways
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken fluency) in English and isiZulu
  • Comfortable using a computer for various tasks including proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license and confident in driving

Advantages:

  • Experience with structured intervention facilitation including Vhutshilo, Grassroot Soccer and/ or Sinovuyo; HTS experience and competency
