Opened in January 2020 under HACT Biz, this exciting new social enterprise initiative not only sells delicious coffee and great food but is inspiring change one cappuccino at a time by providing skills development, training and work experience placements to local, unemployed youth.
Furthermore, income generated through the Café’s sales are channelled directly back into the organisation’s 24-bed Respite Unit which in turn is helping to secure this life-saving projects long-term sustainability.
23 year-old, Nokukhanya Shange is one of the Café’s recent 2020 graduates who has since been employed fulltime at the Café as their head barista. “The Ubuntu Ground Café has changed my life in so many ways” says Nokukhanya, “I’ve learnt so much through my training and discovered skills and talents I never knew I had. I’m also very proud to be working as a barista which is usually a job done by men, my cappuccinos are the best in town!”

The Ubuntu Ground Café is located at the HACT Centre, 26 Old Main Road, Hillcrest and is open 6 days a week, Monday – Friday (8am – 4pm) and Saturdays (8am – 2pm).
