On Friday, the 29th November 2019 over 400 gogos from HACT’s Gogo Support Groups programme will gather to crown the 2019 Gogo of the Year and the 2019 Gogo Group of the Year.
This much anticipated event, which will be taking place at the Bambanani Hall in KwaNyuswa, aims to celebrate and highlight the achievements of local grandmothers living in the Valley of 1000 Hills, many of whom are caring for their orphaned and vulnerable grandchildren.
Thokozile Hlongwane from KwaNysuwa was crowned the winner of last year’s event following her outstanding contribution to uplifting and empowering local gogos particularly through sport. As captain of her local gogo soccer team, Thokozile motivated many gogos to stay fit and healthy and was one of the stars at HACT’s 2018 Gogolympics sports event held in Molweni in April 2018.
In addition to crowning HACT’s 2019 Gogo of the Year and Gogo Group of the Year winners, the organisation will also be honouring the over __ grannies who have completed a 6-month sewing course over the past year and the three most productive granny-run vegetable gardens that provide food security to local gogos and their families.
