Goals 4 Life – Promoting Health Living Through Sport

120 children from 6 local primary schools located in the Valley of 1000 Hills took part in HACT’s second 2019 Goals 4 Life Soccer Tournament on Saturday the 28th September 2019. Once again held at the Hillcrest Sports Grounds, this much anticipated event was a big success with the learners taking part in a series of fun, inter-school games and activities which included a highly competitive soccer match and HIV/AIDS quiz.

The aim of HACT’s Goals 4 Life project is to educate, inspire and mobilize children and young people aged 10 -14 years-old living in disadvantaged communities in the Valley of 1000 Hills in order to decrease their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, help them live healthier, happier and more productive lives as well as become agents for change within their schools and communities.

Speaking about the project, HACT’s Goals 4 Life Coordinator, Pemla Mtshali explains;

“The children are really loving our new project and have been practicing hard for today’s event! Through our project, these children now have access to trained mentors who they can openly discuss any personal concerns and or challenges with that they are experiencing in their lives. Our team is also able to promote HIV testing and counselling and refer those children who are HIV positive to HACT’s adherence support clubs for ongoing pycho-social support and counselling. We are looking forward to continuing this project in 2020 and would like to thank all our donors and partners for their support in making it happen!”
