Next month the HACT team is very excited to be launching its new Goals 4 Life project which will educate, inspire and support over 200 vulnerable children and young people living in rural communities situated directly along the Comrades Marathon route through the universal appeal of soccer.
HACT’s trained facilitators or “coaches” will deliver this interactive HIV prevention and education model proven to reduce the rate of HIV infection amongst young people while providing targeted support to those already living with the disease. HACT’s Goals 4 Life project coordinator, Pam Mtshali says;
“From our annual Gogolympics event, we already know the power that sport and soccer can have in engaging people of all ages. In 2019, we are looking forward to developing this concept further and using soccer to provide a safe and supportive environment for local children affected by HIV/AIDS.”
Here in South Africa, we know that young people under the age of 24 are most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Girls and young women in particular are at high risk, with 500 new HIV infections currently occurring every week in KwaZulu-Natal alone.
This life-saving project is just one of the many projects that HACT will be delivering in 2019.
